Jada Pinkett Smith recently interviewed with Jones Magazine and gave us a little insight to her life. She talks about her family life with her extremely talented children and her hunky hubby Will Smith. Check out the Q&A right here only at Jones!
JM: As a mom how do you balance it all? I mean I have three kids I have a 19 year old, 3 year old, and a 6 year old and working I mean how do you balance it all?
JPS: I think putting myself as a priority, learning to put myself as a priority really helped me learn to balance. Meaning, being able to take care of myself gives me the rejuvination to be able to take care of others and thats really the trick that I learned. That if I'm not happy and I'm not doing well, then nobody is.
JM: Do you ever just take time to just unwind?
JPS: Oh yes absolutely. I take several hours out of the day. If it's like 8 o'colck, it's mommy time. My kids have taught me a lot about honesty. Kids are very honest. My kids have taught me how to listen and how to trust.
JM: What's the secret to getting your kids to do what you want? Do you bribe them?
JPS: I don't use the tactics of bribing. I usually try and get into communication with them. We get exchange. I give you something in return you give me something. Thats what we do. We negotiate in that way.
JM: Do you have a favorite fictional mom? Somebody from another movie or TV show or book that you really admire?
JPS: I'd probably have to say Phylicia Rashan of the Cosby's she's a really good mom.
JM: What about her did you like?
JPS: I really loved her patience. I love that she never got angry, well she got angry but she was always very loving and undestanding yet stern but knew how to set boundaries.
JM: What advice do you have for young couples getting married like Miley Cirus and Liam Hemsworth?
JPS: Miley's getting married?
JM: Yes. She's engaged to Liam Hemsworth. They've been dating for three years. Any advice for them?
JPS: I would say learn to be friends because especially whenever your starting that young there's lots of change coming. Theres lots of transition you now? So forever's a long time and when you're starting forever at 19 years old thats a long time and it's not to say there's anything wrong with that, it's just to know what it is now and what it will be. It's going to continue to transform and continue to change so you have to be with someone you consider a friend you have to keep flexibility.
JM: Also for young children like your own children and kids like Justin Bieber who are in the indistry do you have any advice for them on staying true to themselves in this industry?
JPS: I think just not even young people, even adults just learning to stay true and not to allow the status quo to dictate who you are because you're all very unique individuals so you have to trust your individuality and not be afraid of your individuality.
JM: It's your 15th year anniversary coming up at the end of this year. My ten year is coming up. I haven't even thought about what I want to do yet. Have you guys thought about what you're going to do yet or how your going to celebrate?
JPS: Let me tell you something, we celebrate throughout the year and on our wedding anniversary we give ourselves a highfive! We usually use the whole year any time throughout the year we just look at each other and we go, "Can you believe what we've been able to accomplish from where we've come from?'' I got with Will when I was 23. It's a jouney. It's a beautiful journey. We're nothing how we were when we first met, we're nothing like that.
JM: What do you think were the biggest changes?
JPS: We've grown up, we matured. Our perspectives on life and expetations in relationships and your expectations on partnerships change and you really take more responsibility for yourself as you get older. You know when you're young, you depend a lot on your partner to sort of buoy you up. You have to love being away, that just makes me feel loveable vesus just knowing that you're lovable. And just being able to pull from your own soure of power right? So that's one of the great things about turning 40 because I know who I am.
JM : Are you going to be working together on any new projects?
JPS: Yes we are actually.
JM : What kind?
JPS: A comedy. We're thinking about doing a comedy.
JM:What kind of roles do you guys have? Are you guys playing friends?
JPS: We're actaully thinking about playing partners and two couples who are very close.
JM: What do you do for down time?
JPS: I love to read and I love to bake, seven up cake and red velvet.
JM: What are you reading right now?
JPS: I tend to read non fiction I don't read a lot of things for pleasure but I did just finish reading this book called The Name of the Wind which is by Patrick, Patrick is his first name it was a fantasy , well I like fantasy its one of my favorites. That is one fiction that I do read but I read a lot of non fiction.
JM: What's your favorite summer beauty product?
JPS: Probably Carol's Daughter sun tanning lotion.
